Mouthwash can be both bad and good. Rinsing with fluoride rinse or mouth wash can help keep the cavities out of your mouth. Mouthwash aids in the fight with periodontal disease, also known as gum diesease. Canker sores are soothed when mouthwash enters the mouth, because it acts like a detox. Preterm, low-weight babies can be a factor from gum disease. Mouthwash may help with certain risks and problems in the future, but remember, no good deed goes unpunished.

Like everything in the world, mouthwash has benefits but risks arise too. Although certain mouthwash can soothe canker sores, too much of the alcohol in some mouthwash can irritate them as well. Many people use mouthwash for the fresher breath, but it is said that the bad breath is only masked, rather than defeated. The bad breath does go away when brushing, not just rinsing. Last but not least, mouthwas has been linked, in some cases, to oral cancer. High contents of alcohol in some mouthwashes can be the cause of some oral cancer cases. This does not mean that all mouthwash will always lead to cancer, but it’s just noted as a precaution.

Overall, it really depends on the health habits of the user of mouthwash. If you take care of yourself, mouthwash can help you. On the other hand, if you try to just substitute mouthwash for toothpaste and brushing, it could hurt you in the long run.
